Why I Use Squarespace for My Regional Clients’ Websites

And why it's a game-changer for regional businesses

At Prairie Studio, I help rural and regional businesses build brands and websites that actually work – not just look good on a screen. And when it comes to websites, I often use Squarespace for one big reason: it keeps things simple without compromising on quality.

Whether you’re running a country café, launching a handmade product line, or managing a local service-based business, your time is better spent doing what you do best – not trying to untangle confusing tech or chasing developers just to update your opening hours.

Here’s why I use Squarespace, and why it might be the perfect fit for your business too.

Built for Business Owners, Not Developers

Running a business in a small town or rural community already comes with enough challenges – your website shouldn’t be one of them.

Squarespace’s clean and intuitive dashboard makes it easy for you to update your content, swap out photos, or add a new service without needing to know a single line of code. Once your site is live, you’ll feel confident making changes yourself, no ongoing tech support required.

I love building sites that my clients can actually use. Squarespace makes that possible.

No Hosting, Plugins or Updates to Worry About

One of the biggest perks of using Squarespace? It’s all-in-one. Hosting, security, backups, and updates are handled behind the scenes – so you never have to worry about site crashes, expired plugins, or random update bugs breaking your homepage.

And because there are no third-party plugin dramas, the chances of something going wrong are drastically lower than other platforms. That means fewer headaches for you, and a more reliable experience for your customers.

Great Design Without the Custom-Coded Price Tag

Squarespace gives me the flexibility to create custom-looking websites at a fraction of the cost of fully custom development. Your site will be uniquely designed to suit your brand, no cookie-cutter templates here but without the price tag (and maintenance) of a fully coded site.

That means you get a stylish, professional site that still fits within your budget and can grow with your business over time.

Built-In Tools to Help Your Business Grow

Squarespace includes powerful features like:

  • Built-in SEO tools to help your site get found on Google

  • Integrated email campaigns so you can send marketing updates without a separate EDM platform

  • Mobile-friendly designs that work beautifully on phones and tablets

  • Analytics to track your site traffic and see what’s working

  • Online booking and e-commerce options if you need them

All of this is built right into the platform, so you’re not juggling multiple logins or third-party tools to run your business online*.

Easy to Scale, Easy to Hand Over

As your business grows, your website can grow too. Add more pages, update your offerings, or even expand into e-commerce, all from the same platform. And if you’ve got a team, you can assign permissions so staff can update specific parts of the site without messing with the rest.

Plus, I’m a Squarespace Circle Member (fancy, I know), which means I get extended trial periods, access to exclusive features, and direct support all of which benefit you.

So… Is Squarespace Right for Your Business?

If you want a website that’s:

  • Easy to update

  • Looks great

  • Doesn’t cost a fortune

  • And just works

Then yep, it might be the perfect fit.

Squarespace is especially ideal for:

  • Country cafés, restaurants and bakeries

  • Small service providers (think: hair salons, trades, yoga studios)

  • Artists, photographers, florists and side hustlers

  • E-commerce brands with small to medium product ranges

  • Local tourism, events, and community groups

When Squarespace Might Not Be the Right Fit

While I’m a big fan of Squarespace for most small and regional businesses, it’s not the best option for every single business type. If you’re planning to run a complex e-commerce store, think wholesale pricing, subscription products, detailed inventory management, or advanced shipping rules Shopify will be the better platform for you. (Good news: I design Shopify stores too.)

But if your goal is to sell:

  • A small selection of physical products

  • Digital items like PDFs, templates or courses

  • Event tickets, workshops, or appointment-based services

...then Squarespace is more than enough. It handles those beautifully, and keeps things simple so you’re not overwhelmed trying to manage a full-blown e-commerce backend.

The rule of thumb? If your shop is small but mighty, Squarespace has your back. If it’s big, complex or fast-scaling, Shopify’s your mate.
